Can't help about the Syracuse area, but I have done some rag rug weaving. It's very easy, and goes fast, which is rather satisfying. My favorite materials have turned out to be flannel sheets. I like the softness and durability. They also wash well. I usually use a good strong cotton warp and then buy the sheets at a Goodwill or Value Village (or whatever you have there) and wash and bleach 'em (I'm a nut about 'germs') and then cut the sheets into about 1
