I don't know if you've ever had the opportunity to use a
spool knitter. The spool knitters that I've used have all
had 4 or 5 pegs. The lucet is basically used the same way
except it only has 2 pegs.

I found a couple of web sites that have instructions.

You can make a simple version of a lucet the same way that
you would make a spool knitter. Use 2 finishing nails and
a wooden thread spool. The nails are pounded in on one end
of the spool and at opposite sides of the hole. You want
to leave about 1/2 to 3/4" of nail sticking out as a peg.
To knit on it, put the end of the yarn through the hole and
follow the instructions for knitting on a lucet. As you knit,
the finished cord comes out of the hole.

Getting started using one of these tools is the hard part.
Once you figure it out, it's a fun and simple way to make
a cord.
