I just stumbled upon this site. I had very good success with a video by Deborah Chandler, "Introduction to Weaving", put out by Victorian Videos. Great video, I borrowed from my local library about 5 times. I taught myself how to weave with that video. I got a great deal on a table loom. Figured I could either afford the classes or the loom, so I went for it and purchased the loom. I used inexpensive yarns to start, because I knew I wouldn't be making magic with my loom right off. I don't weave as frequently as I'd like but, I do have a Christmas project on the loom at this time. Anyway, Good Luck!
