In your position, I would suggest starting out on a drop spindle--much smaller commitment, lots of fun, and fine results with a little practice. Ashford makes one that sells for about $12, but it doesn't come with a hook in the top, and it's probably kind of heavy for your straight, short-ish fiber unless you want to make a very thick yarn. I made a nice, light spindle out of a cd, a chopstick, and some tape--there are other options. Whatever you do, practice on some other fiber first, like storebought sliver wool, because your first attempts can be disappointing, and you don't want to waste your precious hair!
