I have an old Mira and it is a wonderful work-horse of a loom. I am not a rug weaver but before I got this loom, it was used at a senior center for making rag rugs. Very heavy construction so worked very well. Mine is 60" wide so was just wider than they wanted for rugs. I have used it for everything else and it has been a very versatile loom. I think the old Mira's were all counter balance which is good for separating weft that tries to cling to the adjacent harness. Also, the treadling is easier with counter balance when weaving heavy materials. Good Luck!
