Sharon's way sounds like a lot of work. Just take a length of smooth, firm cotton, like carpet warp or crochet cotton, more than twice the height of your heddle bars. Center the string on the lower heddle bar, then smooth the two ends up to where the bottom of the heddle eye should be and tie an overhand knot with both ends held together for the bottom of the heddle eye. Open the pair of strings around the warp thread and tie another overhand knot above the warp, where the heddle eye should end. Now take the two ends of the string and tie a knot around the upper heddle bar. Tie a granny to make sure the knot won't come undone!
