I learned a great way from a workshop with Deb McClintock...get two strings, tie one to upper bar and loop around the loose thread, without too much tension, but not too loose...then tie the second string to the lower bar, also without too much tension. This makes the thread raise/lower with the same tension as the others, and takes about 5 minutes to do. I find it sometimes works better than my metal heddles!
