the closer spacing of the warp threads is more desirable for a rug. Will give it more durability. You can accomplish this with your 8 dent reed. Simply sley 2 threads in one dent every third dent. Or 2-1-1, 2-1-1, 2-1-1. This gives you 12 ends per inch. The dent that has two threads, each warp thread goes in a separate heddle. So you are still threading 1-2-3-4, just that 1-2 are in one dent. Make sense? If not, Deb Chandlers book probably gives a better explanation.
Good luck!
