Make your own motorized drum carder

I was thinking of getting a drum carder and attaching a motorized shaft to it. Any ideas on how to help?

Is there a maximum RPM that you should spin it at?
Or a minimum?

I raise my own silkworms for silk and use preprocessed wool rovings and want to create wool/silk (20/80, 30/70) batts from my raw silk and processed wool.

Just wondering if anybody's tried this before or has any suggestions to make it easier/cheaper/better.

I don't have my drum carder yet, and haven't ever used one -- it's just an idea. Is it a reasonable idea?
