When F C Wood ("Cliff") Wood originally designed the Dorset loom, he took it to Berta Frey to see what she thought. She told him that he needed to make changes. She helped him several times until the design was finalized. Schacht does say on their website that they did base their Wolf Pup design on the Dorset. Schacht uses the direct tie up, and changed to a tension brake system (not a ratchet and pawl), along with some other changes. The Dorset was actually originally built in Dorset VT in the Wood's basement and later moved to NY as orders increased. You can still find Dorsets for sale occasinally on the internet at a very reasonable price. It's kind of like comparing a classic Corvette to a new one. The Dorset is a sweet weaving loom and the Schacht Pup has some new gadgets which I find are nice. Thank you for asking and I hope that helps you.
