I'd be really surprised if the two shafts were connected. That would require drilling a hole all the way through the cloth beam. Can you imagine the length of that drill bit!

I have a Macomber that this happened with, but on the warp beam. Pounding it in fixed it, but you said you husband tried that. So, I'm wondering if the pin is out far enough that it's caused the beam and the pin to be out of alignment, or if the pin is bent. In that case, pounding might just try to drive the pin into wood instead of into it's hole. Did you release the tension on that beam before the pounding? If not, release the tension and make sure the beam is aligned with the hole for the pin and the pin, and try pounding again. (This won't work if the pin is bent.)

If there is a slot cut in the pin, it might be a screw instead of a pin. In that case, try screwing it in. You could also try squirting a little powdered graphite around where the pin would slip into the beam.

I'm guessing you have a bent pin and will need to replace it, maybe with a stronger one once the warp is off the loom.

Good luck!

Sally
