There is an article by Deborah Chandler in Handwoven, March/April 1988, about tieing up a counterbalance loom and the unbalanced, uneven shed. There is also some information about counterbalance and the actual cord adjustments in issue one of the Leclerc Master Weaver series.
I do not have an looms that are counterbalance looms, but I do know that I have read other references about adjust tie ups to give a balanced weave with an unbalanced treadling. SOme looms have a shed regulator that helps with the unbalanced tie-ups.
