I didn't want to believe it, either, but now that I have taken the wheel off, and taken the rim apart from the spokes and hub, I can see that about one-quarter of the wheel rim droops sharply to one side. It is even more clear when I lay the wheel rim flat on a hard surface -- one edge of it curls upwards from the surface.
I do not know how this happened, as it was fine when I got it -- perhaps the beech wood did not like being in Colorado. Maybe one could get it wet and "re-warp" it back to the vertical, but I'm hesitant to try that.
So far, my attempts to build myself another drive wheel with a different rim and the same spokes and hub have not worked too well. Obviously there is more to being a wheelwright than I thought. Sigh.
