I have re-habilitated a Herald loom to working order. All the parts are together and it weaves fine except for the brake release. Depressing the brake pedal in front lowers the brake release lever, but does not disengage the pawl from the ratchet. At the ratchet end of the lever, it looks like a strip of spring steel has broken off and the stub is held by a rivet. Question: how was the spring strip shaped and how does it work to release the pawl from the ratchet.

Any photo/sketch of a working brake release would be appreciated. You can also send an attachment to aehdesign1@gmail.com
