The 8/2 unmercerized cotton I order from the YarnBarn in Lawrence, KS (or I pick up when I go down there) that is on spools is much smoother and softer when it is dyed or bleached (the processing must change the texture)than the 8/2 unmercerized cotton I get from there in natural. The cotton that they sell on 1/2 pound tubes must be from a different manufacturer than the stuff they sell on the pound cones. Hope this helps.
