Elaine, most tie up diagrams Ive seen are read from left to right, as you face the loom. Plain weave treadles are tied 1&3/2&4 generally. The other 4 are your pattern treadles. In case it didn't come up in your class, Counterbalance (your Fanny) tie ups are indicated with x's in the blocks of the diagram. (If your diagram is marked with O's, that's a jack loom pattern...you'd just tie up the blank blocks instead)

I'm sure this is clear as mud. I also have a Fanny and just love the old thing...a real pickup truck as looms go!
