I am new to this and am beginning my first project. It is a rug measuring 22"x36". I have built a Navajo style loom and have gotten all the tools I need. I am now trying to calculate the epi of my warp. I would like to have a tighter weave. From what I can gather from reading, the more wraps per inch the better. The books I have read(Navajo Weaving Way -Bennett/Bighorse & Navajo and Hopi weaving techniques- Pandleton) are a bit vague on how to determine the epi. I understand that the more wraps per inch the more difficult the process of actually weaving the weft will be. The charts I find online tell me that a "heavy" rug would have a sett of 18. I am using an 8/4 cotton warp yarn. Anyone have any comments that would help me? Many thanks.
